Framing - preparing for my exhibition

Today I sent off my paintings to be framed. John Thomas, who comes highly recommended, came to my house and collected my watercolours.

John is an artist and framer. He and his wife, Di King, have a studio/gallery in Healesville, called Pennylane Studio/Gallery (32 Maroondah Highway Healesville 3777 PH: 61 3 59622557). Di King's work and CV can be

Williamstown Watercolour

Another little sketch while out on location. It is a pen and wash. Our painting group, Class ACT, has met a couple of times at Williamstown, Victoria. this is a bay-side suburb across Port Phillip Bay from Melbourne's CBD. There are lots of boats moored around the area. Also a boat-building yard and naval base. For those who like sketching and painting water and boats, this is a great location.

Another Sorrento Painting

This is a little pen and wash painting that I did while at our Class ACT painting weekend in Sorrento. Our local artists showed us a beautiful little-known walk that skirts the top of the cliffs between Sorrento and Portsea. From there are magnificent views across Port Philip Bay. The quiet coves below the cliffs have small jetties and quaint boat sheds nestled - an artist's dream.

The particular day we were painting there was beautiful - still and mild. Such a range of blues across the water and lovely reflections of the ochre-coloured cliffs made for a perfect painting spot.

This painting is on Aches 300gsm rough watercolour paper (16 cm x 12 cm)

YouTube - Taff and Tim Adventure Odyssey

Here is a direct link to the Antarctica YouTube video. It was made in March this year as we were traveling back to South America after spending 10 days in Antarctica. In the short video I talk about painting in Antarctica.

Painting of Continental Hotel, Sorrento, Victoria, AU

The painting group, Class ACT (that is a group of friends that I met thru painting class) regularly get together to paint. We have had some great weekends away. On these weekends we spend lots of time painting, sketching, exploring techniques and also laughing, eating well and talking.

Earlier in the year we went to the Mornington Peninsula, to Sorrento. It is such a great place to paint especially if you like painting seascapes. one side of the peninsula is rough, surf, rocks and cliffs. The other is little coves with fishing boats, jetties, kids playing in the sand and quieter water. The streetscape of the village-like town of Sorrento is also great to paint - and eat lunch or sip on cappuccinos!

The painting I have posted today is of the Continental Hotel, which sits up on the hill as you round the bend into the main street of Sorrento. I sat in a lovely green patch of the pathway that links the shops and the foreshore beach. From there the view of the hotel is wonderful. I hope you enjoy the painting.

More on Antarctica...

In March this year I traveled to Argentina and then on to Antarctica as I said in a previous post. Today i have included a link to a promotional site for the guys who lead the expedition - Nik Halik and Peter Bland. Their company, Adventure Odyssey, built this little site, that is in the link. I thought it would be fun to include here as there is a YouTube video in which I talk about art and painting in Antarctica - and the photos are great! Click here to check it out.

Class Act Exhibition Dates

I am excited to be a part of an exhibition with a group of friends. We call ourselves "Class A.C.T". Our group consists of Vivi Palegeorge, Victoria Newnham, Judy Waters, Di Stevenson, Marie Dillon and myself, Taff Richardson. We all met each other when we attended Malcolm Beattie's water colour classes. Malcolm Beattie holds classes in watercolor technique from his studio in Warrigal Road, Burwood, Victoria, Australia.

Class Act has been getting together for the last three years. We go out together to picturesque spots around Melbourne to sketch and paint. If the weather is inclement, we meet at each others' homes and paint on the kitchen table. Encouragement and friendship is our base!
Our exhibition will be held at AGRA galleries from 15 to 25 October 2008. Our opening night is Friday 17 October at 7 pm.
